Dear Lakewood Library Advocates!
PLEASE fill out the Pierce County Library System community survey (see link below) about what should be done with the Lakewood Library. The deadline is August 19th. Do it today, perhaps, so you don’t forget.
Please demand in your survey responses that you want them to SAVE AND RESTORE THE LAKEWOOD LIBRARY!
Please also advocate de-annexation from PCLS. Lakewood has lost its beloved and award-winning library because PCLS clearly has its own agenda and does not care about what is important to Lakewood’s residents.
Furthermore, we have been a city for more than 25 years now, and we deserve our own library system. Why does Puyallup have one and we don’t? We are one of the largest municipalities in Washington State not to have its own library system!
We brought the matter of de-annexation up at the Lakewood City Council meeting, and at the most recent meeting, the council members decided to look into the matter. Here is an article from July 10th, summarizing that option, after former Mayor Anderson expressed interest in de-annexation: https://www.lakewoodexaminer.com/2022/07/10/lakewood-libraries-de-annexation-moving-onto-the-agenda/
Here is an account of the Council’s most recent comments: https://www.lakewoodexaminer.com/2022/07/26/lakewood-city-council-discusses-de-annexation-from-the-library-system/

And please have your friends and family support saving the Lakewood Library by filling it out, too.
Also — please begin preparing a public comment on de-annexation and saving the Lakewood Library for Monday’s City Council meeting. You can join us in person or via Zoom, and also submit a written comment. I will send a separate email later today detailing how to do that.
Thank you! The Lakewood Library thanks you! Old Lakewood thanks you!
Sincerely,
James Dunlop and Christina Manetti
